What's up guys, it has been too long since I've done a film review based on my favorite movie. So I am gonna do that today.
This is a Spanish crime thriller directed by Oriol Paulo in 2016. It stars Mario Casas as a man who has been framed for the murder of his lover. Now this man is very wealthy, he's the head of a large tech corporation. So he wants as much as possible to avoid jail time.
So he enlists the help of a veteran defense lawyer to help him build a watertight case, and also to figure out who framed him, who set him up. Now the film takes place in this man's apartment but most of it consists of flashbacks as the man recounts all the events leading up to his lover's death. So I've never heard of this movie... ever, I didn't know what it was about, I didn't know if it was good. but it was on my Netflix and it came recommended by a friend so I gave it a go, and I thought this movie was pretty freak in awesome. now there wasn't much this film did wrong, for example, the acting is terrific across the board.
Mario Casas I think gave a very frustrated, dramatic performance as someone who is against the ropes but is somehow arrogantly confident in himself. so I like that. also fantastic I thought was the lady who played the defense lawyer, Ana Waganer.
I'm sorry if I pronounced the name wrong, but I thought she was very strong and I liked her changing emotions, how she portrayed the emotions as she learned more details about the accused man's story.
Oriol Paulo is the director here and I think he had an excellent handle on the film's plot which can get pretty complicated towards the ending of the film, sometimes a little bit too complicated for the film's good, but I still did a fantastic job in ensuring that the editor didn't confuse the audience, and on that note, I think the editor himself also did a good job in keeping the audience from figuring out what was gonna happen next.
The Invisible guest I think is one of those films where characters are forced to make decisions, and some of these decisions involve deceit and lies, and the film has this element of how someone can hang on to a lie for so long that it becomes our reality, and the truth then becomes harder and harder to find, because more and more lies are built on this one bad decision, so that's one element of the film that I was impressed by. there were some things in the Invisible Guest that didn't completely land for me. the film often tells us that a character does something, but it assumes that a character just went off and did it off-screen, and I found myself thinking hmm how did that character do that without someone figuring it out, or how did someone not notice, but I tend to not get too hung up on this kind of things because might just be the fact that I'm a little bit slow.
there was something I found a bit weird about how the film sets itself up, and unfortunately, this suspicion turned out to be a big part of how the film ends, so I can't lie and say that I wasn't a little bit disappointed at that. also, I'm not sure if this is just a local style, but there were one or two stylistic choices in the sound effects that I found to be a little bit over the top.
it's like when someone says something big, and you get the music cue... like I've said something shocking... but yeah having said all of that, I do think the film is still very very solid, I've seen it twice now and it's just as exciting and thrilling the second time around, so if you are interested in a crime drama to spend a night alone with, then this would be a very very good choice. guys thank you so much for reading this blog. if you want me to review one of your favorite movies, then comment on the Twitter post that I've linked in the description below, I'd appreciate that.
